Friday Five - Serena, Hamilton, Ice Rolling, Football Food, and Labor Day Sales
We've made it to Friday, folks! Hope you are looking forward to a fun, relaxing, and long Labor Day weekend! Every Friday, I will be sharing the five coolest things I've found or done this week! I love getting ideas from other gals about things to do, places to see, and products I need to have. Sometimes the items featured will be photography related, sometimes I'll just share a new hair product I can't live without. This week I'm sharing the latest Nike ad featuring Serena Williams, how my two faves, Harry and Hamilton collided this week, an easy football friendly (and husband approved!) skinny wing recipe, my latest amazon purchase, and where to get the best Labor Day deals!
1. WATCH: Venus and Serena
Even if you aren't a tennis fan, you'll want to tune in to the US Open today to watch the Williams sisters battle it out for the 30th time in their professional careers (and its only the third round!). It is unbelievable that these two are still competing at the level they are at 36 and 37 years old. Age, taking time off for baby, injuries... they are battling more than just each other. I'll be cheering on Serena because any friend of Meghan Markles' is a friend of mine. ;)
Have you guys seen this Nike ad? What an amazing reminder that our goals and dreams are only crazy until they happen. Grab the tissues and prepare to be inspired! Tune into watch Serena and Venus on ESPN today!
2. LISTEN: Hamilton Cast Recording
Ok...if you know me, you know I have a very deep and unending love for the British Royal family. Will, K-Middy, Harry, and Meg are it for me... they are the true Fab 4. You also might know that I had the opportunity to see my other favorite obsession; Hamilton, in Chicago this summer. Well, my two favorite things collided this week and it may be the end of me.
Harry and Meghan attended a performance of Hamilton this week in London and get this... King George III’s great-great-great-great-great-great grandson, Harry, sang the opening of "You'll Be Back". And Meghan reportedly said that Harry "can't stop singing" the songs from Hamilton. (Same Harry, SAME!) If you've seen the musical, you know exactly the intro I'm talking about. If you haven't... that leads me to number 2 on the Friday Five. If you have a spotify account, you can listen to the whole soundtrack here! It sooooooo good, guys. I know you've heard the hype, and it 1000% delivers. The show will be in Tampa in 2019 and if you have the opportunity to snag a ticket... do it! You will not regret it!! In the meantime... crank up that Alexander Hamilton!
3. Make: Skinny Chicken Wings
College Football starts this week!! I'm so excited... I love Saturday football... makes it always seem like theres something to look forward to during the week! I'm sharing this recipe for "Skinny Chicken Wings" from one of my fave food bloggers Skinnytaste. The wings are baked instead of fried but still taste like a traditional buffalo wing. We will be making these this weekend! Here's the recipe:
LIGHTER BUFFALO WINGS
3 lbs (about 18) chicken wings
1/2 cup + 2 tbsp Franks hot sauce
1/4 cup white vinegar
2 tbsp oregano
4 tsp paprika
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp chili powder
salt and fresh pepper
2 celery stalks, sliced into strips
2 carrots, peeled and sliced into strips
In a large bowl combine chicken, 2 tbsp hot sauce, vinegar, oregano, paprika, garlic powder, chili powder salt and pepper.
Mix well and let marinate for 30 minutes.
Place wings on a broiler rack and broil on low, about 8 inches from the flame for about 10-12 minutes on each side. (All ovens are different so be careful not to burn and make sure it is cooked before removing)
While chicken cooks, heat the remaining hot sauce until warm.
Toss the hot sauce with the chicken and arrange on a platter.
Serve with celery and carrot strips and blue cheese dressing or dipping

4. BUY: Ice Roller
This ice roller has been all over my Instagram for the past few months. I kept seeing it and thinking it was so random and what could it possibly do? I read the reviews and did a little research and finally purchased one this week. I can't share any long term benefits with you just yet, but I will tell you that I had a little under the skin zit action pop up this week and what do you know... the ice roller actually helped. I iced it for a few seconds on/few seconds off and it was gone.
From what I've read, ice rolling can:
Reduce puffiness and redness
Reduce your pore size and firm skin
Help fight wrinkles
Help with hangovers
The best thing about the ice roller... its only $11.99! Ice yourself, girl! Pop one in your cart here!
5. DO: Shop the Labor Day Sales!
Living in Tampa can be a bit of a drag this time of year for some people (me!). All of the stores are trying to sell us sweaters and boots and PSL's but we know deep down there's no point in getting excited for "fall". Hurricane season? Yes. Fall? No way. The good news is... most of the things we can buy at the Labor Day sales are things that we can wear right now! Woo Hoo!! So here are some of my faves...
